About our choice of speakers

The annual Cultivate Conference seeks to bring together a blend of trusted and theologically conservative voices for the purpose of strengthening local churches and local church leaders across the American Heartland. 
Our ultimate desire is to see a gospel-centered church bringing transformation to every Heartland community.

Bob Thune Jr.

Bob Thune (MA, Reformed Theological Seminary) founded Coram Deo Church in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2005, and has served as its Lead Pastor ever since. He is the author of Gospel Eldership and the co-author (with Will Walker) of the best-selling small-group studies The Gospel-Centered Life and The Gospel-Centered Community. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, working with his hands, or reading a good book. Bob and his wife Leigh have been married since 1997 and have four children. In addition to his leadership at Coram Deo, Bob serves on the board of a classical Christian school, speaks and teaches broadly, coaches and trains church planters for the Acts 29 Network, and serves as a Council member of The Gospel Coalition.

Mark Dever

Mark has served as the senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC since 1994. A Duke graduate, Mark holds a M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a Th.M. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Ecclesiastical History from Cambridge University. He is the president of 9Marks Ministries and has taught at a number of seminaries. Mark has authored several books and articles, most recently, Discipling, The Compelling Community, and The Church: The Gospel Made Visible. He and his wife Connie live on Capitol Hill, with Connie giving much of her time to creating a childrens’ curriculum (PraiseFactory). They have two adult children.

Robert Thune Sr.

Born and raised in Murdo, SD, Bob pastored 10 years at the Evangelical Free Church in Huntington Beach, CA , 22 years at Christ Community Church in Omaha, NE, 7 years at Southwest Community Church in Indian Wells, CA, and 5 years at GracePoint Church in  Bismarck, ND. 
When Bob and his wife Ruthie finished at GracePoint, they affiliated with IPM (Interim Pastor Ministries), an organization devoted to helping churches transition from one pastor to the next.  They recently fulfilled that function for Bethel Church in Fairmont, MN, serving from November 2017 through June 2019.
Bob and Ruthie have two sons—Bob & Jeff—who are both pastors, in Omaha and Tucson, and they have 8 grandchildren.
